Big Recap! / by Andy Clausen

2013 has already been a busy year, so we wanted to fill you in on a few things that have been going on and let you know what's to come.

This spring we took part in an exciting collaboration with The Juilliard School’s dance division for their Senior Production, the culmination of a year-long creative process focused on launching seniors into the professional world. Our original work with choreographer Garth Johnson, entitled these empty buildings, premiered at the Rosemary and Meredith Willson Theater on May 2nd, then was selected the following week to be part of Juilliard’s Choreographic Honors Showcase at the Peter Jay Sharp Auditorium. This was the biggest stage we’ve played yet and the show went great! Hope to have video to share soon.

We wrapped up our time in New York with two performances at The Stone, where we presented a new project featuring our arrangements of music by Wayne Horvitz. Thanks to all who came out – both shows were a huge success, and we were thrilled to play at such a special venue.

Fast forward a couple months and now we’re back home in Seattle, breathing fresh air and rehearsing every day for OUR FIRST ALBUM!! We are extremely excited to announce that our debut album will feature our arrangements of music by Wayne Horvitz and will be released by Vancouver, BC label Songlines in 2014. Next week we'll be heading up to our annual residency on Lopez Island (hosted by the lovely Halperin-Green family) with Wayne and engineer Eric Eagle to record this music. Five days full of rehearsing and recording amidst the beauty of the Pacific Northwest is as good as it gets; stay tuned to hear the results.

We have two shows coming up in Seattle, one on each side of our Lopez residency:

THIS FRIDAY, August 2nd, we'll be at the Chapel in the Good Shepherd Center, one of our favorite rooms in the world. The day before we embark on our retreat, we’ll be performing all of the album’s material from start to finish. 8pm; 4649 Sunnyside Ave. N, 4th Floor; $5-15 sliding scale at the door.
August 12th we'll be back home at the Royal Room in Columbia City. Fresh off the ferry from Lopez, we’ll be playing one set of Wayne's music and one set of our own material. 5000 Rainier Ave. S; please call (206) 906-9920 for details regarding tickets and reservations.
That's all for now, hope to see you soon!
